I am trying to setup password on the D-Link website but it won't allow me because "Only admin account can change the settings". How do I change the settings because I am the admin? Thanks
Setting up your D-link can be done by following few simple steps mentioned below.
Step 1: Make sure your PC is connected to your network either via wired ethernet connection or through wifi.
Step 2: Open your web-browser and type in 192.168.0.1(default IP address of D-Link), in the address bar and press Enter.
Step 3: You will be redirected to the login page of your D-Link router, enter the login ID and password into their respective fields and click submit. You can find your router's login details at the bottom, otherwise, refer to the question mentioned below.
Step 4: Once on the main router settings page, click on WAP/Internet settings, on the WAP settings page, enable DHCP to get an automatic IP address from your ISP. Also, select the bandwidth channel you want your router to operate on.
Step 5: Go to Security settings page, click on 'Encryption' and select WPA2 as your encryption type. below that, you will notice a box for Passkey, this your wifi password. Create a strong password and save the settings. You have successfully configured your router machine.
Step 6: Download all the drivers for your router from the official website of your router. You can download all available drivers and software from the Driver download section by entering your device model number.
A D-Link router communicates with your Internet modem to provide multiple computers and devices with a local network and Internet connection. A wireless router provides support for both wired and wireless connections simultaneously. While the D-Link router will automatically detect your modem settings to provide an Internet connection you will still need to configure the administrator account and wireless security to protect your network from unwanted outside connections and tampering.
STEP 1: Plug your D-Link router in to a power supply next to your Internet modem.
STEP 2: Plug one end of a network cable in the outgoing network port on the back of the modem and the other end into the "Internet" port on your D-Link router. You will see the "Internet" light appear on the front of the router.
STEP 3: Plug one end of a second network cable in a "LAN" port on the back of the D-Link router and the other end of the cable into the network port on the back of your computer. Your computer should automatically connect to the router and display a network connection icon in the taskbar.
STEP 1: Launch an Internet browser on your computer.
STEP 2: Type "192.168.0.1" into the browser's address bar and press the "Enter" key on the keyboard. This will launch the router login.
STEP 3: Type "admin" as the administrator username leave the password text box blank and press the "Enter" key on your keyboard to log in to the D-Link router dashboard.
STEP 4: Navigate to the "Tools" tab and click "Admin" in the menu on the left.
STEP 5: Type a new login name and password for the administrator account and press the "Save Settings" button. Be sure to record this information for future reference.
STEP 6: Navigate to the "Setup" tab and click "Wireless Settings" from the menu on the left.
STEP 7: Select "Enable WPA Wireless Security" from the "Security Mode" drop-down menu.
STEP 8: Type a passphrase in the text boxes then click the "Save Settings" button. This will place a security password on your D-Link router and prevent wireless users from connecting to your Internet and network without your permission. Be sure to save the passphrase in a safe location.
Step 1: Disconnect the modem from its power adapter. Connect an Ethernet cable to the modem.
Step 2: Plug the other end of the cable into the "Internet" port on the back of the wireless router.
Step 3: Connect the computer to a LAN port on the D-Link. Connect the modem and the router to a power outlet.
Step 1: Navigate to the address "https://192.168.0.1" or "https://dlinkrouter" in a Web browser to access the setup wizard.
Step 2: Choose your connection type from the options. Most Ethernet connections use DHCP. Click "Connect."
Step 3: Enter the username and password for your Internet service into the appropriate fields or fill in the IP Address Subnet Mask Gateway Address and Primary DNS Server fields if applicable.
Step 4: Click "Connect" to set up the network on the D-Link.
Step 1: Choose "Configure" from under Wireless Settings. Click "Wireless Connection Setup Wizard." Click "Next."
Step 2: Enter a name for the network into the Wireless Network Name (SSID) field and then choose "Automatically Assign a Network Key" from the options.
Step 3: Select "Use WPA Encryption Instead of WEP" for the best security and then click "Next." Write down the security password shown on-screen and store the password in a secure location.
Step 4: Click "Save" to finish configuring the router. After the router automatically reboots disconnect the router's Ethernet connection from the computer if desired.
