How does a Wireless Router Work?

A Wireless Router is a device that connects other devices to the internet network within a range of 100 meters. It is a wireless hardware device, and you only need a username and password to access the internet through the router.

There are two types of routers: one allows you to connect your personal computer with a single household network within the wireless range, the other is designed for office usage, and the network coverage area is broad.

A wireless router works by decoding the received signal and then sending that decoded signal to the internet through a wired connection. Then, the router receives information from the internet and is directly connected to the internet.

Type of Wireless Router:

There are two types of wireless routers that are developed for end-user to keep different kinds of needs. The first type of wireless router is designed to allow you to connect your personal computer with a network within a single house held as long as the computer is placed within the wireless range.

This type of router allows you to access your internet remotely. The second type of wireless router is mainly designed for office applications and it is for a very broad area. A wired router is much more cost-effective than a wireless router. Wireless connections are more convenient and more reliable as compared with a wired network.

Remote Connection Without a Wire:

A wireless router works by plugging the base set into your internet connection, which allows your computer to access the internet. Wireless routers enable to you work online with your computer without having to connect with any kind of wire.

But they are also allowed to connect your computer with a wired network. By using a wired connection, you can simply connect your router with a computer using an Ethernet cable.

Connect Computer with Standalone Network:

There are so many ports in the router in your router which determines how many computers can be run off that router simultaneously and access the single broadband connection.

Basically, a router is a junction box that joins many computers with the same network. A modem is built into the router which connects the computer either wirelessly or through a wired network.

Working of Wireless Router:

Like the wireless cellular phone, the wireless router is hooked up with cable. Internet connection uses radio signal frequency waves instead of the telephone line to transmit and receive signals. This radio wave allows you to send data from one end to another end. The first data is to be transformed from computer data into radio signals and then transmitted.

A wireless router first receives the signal and decode those signal and then send that decoded signals to the internet using a wired connection. The router can receive information from the internet also. Taking information from the internet or transmitting information to the internet is a two-way process. The router is directed connected to the internet.

As we discussed the router can receive information from the internet and transform it into radio signals and send it back to the computer. In an easy manner, we can say that it is two-way radio signal communication between your router and the internet. Your radio and television program also works on the same mechanism.

How to Connect Devices with Wireless Router:

To connect devices with a wireless router, you will be prompted to enter your username and password on your devices. These usernames and passwords are usually supplied to you by your internet service provider.

If you are not able to connect your device wirelessly, you need to confirm your password with your internet service provider. Mostly the password contains some digits and characters which enforce the high security of passwords.

What Else Can Your Wi-Fi Do?

Other than connecting to the internet, you can use your router to make a call over the internet and you can save your expensive phone bill, you can use your home Wi-Fi to access your digital TV using some products like Apple TV, and Amazon fire stick and smart TV.

How to Choose the Best Wireless Router:

If you have taken a very basic plan from your internet service provider like the ADSL package then you have to give a very simple router by your internet service provider. However, if you have signed up for fiber optics broadband, you might get a better model router with more advanced features.
