Question

How to Resolve Buffalo Wireless Router Flash ROM Problem

I am using Buffalo WLAR-L11-L (802.11b, 4-port hub, NAT box) that was running firmware 1.01 happily. I tried upgrading to firmware 1.31 to get PPTP passthrough capability. After this, I tried setting a WEP key. The box tried to restart, and now gives the two-flash red DIAG light indicating a flash ROM error, which persists after the power-off-on restart. Is there any way to resolve Buffalo Wireless Router flash problem?

Buffalo Flash Problem -

To resolve Buffalo router flash ROM problem, reset your router to factory defaults.

  • Buffalo router may become unusable if you lose or forget its password, or if the configuration settings no longer apply to the current networking environment.
  • To perform a fresh installation, hard reset the Buffalo router.
  • Fortunately, a flash problem is rare, and there are ways to recover from it i.e., hard reset.
  • By doing this, all of the configuration settings will set back to defaults.

Step 1- Press and hold the reset button at the back of the Buffalo router for 30 seconds.

Step 2- Disconnect the power from the router while continuing to hold down the reset button.

Step 3- After few moments, reconnect the power.

Step 4- Now hold the Reset button for 30 seconds.

Step 5- After 30 seconds, release the Reset button and wait approximately 1 minutes for the router to re-initialize itself.

By performing above steps, your Buffalo router will reset to its factory default state, which is sometimes needed to get it to boot properly after a flash. If that doesn't work, then you'll need to look into one of the more advanced recovery procedures.

Also, update your Buffalo router firmware on a regular basis. Bookmark the page where your router has updates posted and check it every so often for new versions of the firmware.
