How To Setup TP Link Router Tl-Wr841N?

Hello, folks I have recently bought a TP-Link router TL-WR841N for my home, The ISP guy whom I called to set up the router is not responding from 2 days and I need to hook this thing up as soon as possible. Can anyone here suggest any methods on how to setup my Tp_link router in simple steps? I use a Comcast modem, any help will be appreciated.

TP Link TL-WR841n Setup:

Check These Points for Installing TP-Link tl-wr841n Router with Modem -

  1. First of all, you have to connect the TP-Link router to your modem by using an ethernet cable. You have to insert one end of the ethernet cable into yellow switch port of TP-Link router and another end into your PC’s ethernet port.
  2. After this, you have to plug the power adapter into the wall outlet. Also, plug the DC power jack into TP-link router. Now turn on the router by pressing the power button.
  3. Now, open any internet browser, type “192.168.0.1” in the address bar and also press Enter key.
  4. You are redirected towards a window where you have to enter username and password for authentication purpose. You have to enter these details -
    • username - admin
    • password - admin
  5. After entering authentication details hit Login.
  6. On TP-Link, router setup wizard, move to “System Tools” menu and then tap on “Firmware Update” button.
  7. In next step, tap on “Choose File” button and then choose a factory image for TP-Link router.
  8. Make sure your router model number and version are matching, there should not exist any mismatch!
  9. Next, click on Upgrade button and choose Yes option for confirmation.
  10. Now your TP-Link router will reboot, so you to wait for a few minutes.
  11. After rebooting, again open the web page and log into TP-Link router setup wizard.
  12. Navigate to TP-Link router Management page and hit a click on Network option. After this, move to the left side and click on WAN.
  13. Modify WAN Connection type to PPPoE and proceed to next step.
  14. Now, you have to enter PPPoE username and password that is provided by your ISP.
  15. At last, save the entire settings by clicking on Save button.
  16. Now, go to Status option and see the “WAN” part. If there is valid IP address then you must understand that connection has been established between your TP-Link router and modem.
  17. If there is no valid IP address, then you have to perform a power cycle on TP-link router. For this process, turn off TP-Link router, modem, and computer for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, turn on all devices and establish a fresh connection between them.

Advanced preparations -

  1. Turn off your TP-Link router, Comcast modem, and computer.
  2. Now you have to connect your Comcast modem to TP-Link router’s WAN port by using a Cat 5 ethernet cable. After this, you have to connect your computer to TP-Link router’s LAN port via an ethernet cable.
  3. Power on your TP-Link router, Comcast modem, and computer.

Setup TP Link wr841n Router -

Step 1: Log into TP-Link router web-based setup utility by typing “https://tplinkwifi.net” in the address bar. Now you are redirected to a login page where you have to enter login credentials. After entering username and password, you are redirected to TP-Link web-based utility page.

Step 2: After entering into TP-Link router wizard, you have to configure WAN connection type. For this, tap on Network> WAN on the menu. Move to right-side of the webpage and choose Dynamic IP as the WAN connection type. After this, click on Save button.

Step 3: Wait for a couple of minutes and then check the WAN part on TP-link router’s Status page.

If there, a valid IP address is displaying then you should understand the connection between your TP-Link router and modem has been established. If no IP address is displaying then proceed to next step.

Step 4 :Tap Network> MAC Clone> Clone MAC Address. Then save the settings by clicking on Save button.

Step 5: If still, no IP address is displaying then restart your Comcast modem and TP Link tl-wr841n router. After restarting both devices, I hope you will get WAN IP address and internet access.
