Setup Wireless Network of Your Linksys Router:

A router is a network connection device that connects multiple computers, smartphones, and other devices to a single network. After that, the router is usually connected to a modem to provide Internet access to any devices that are connected to it.

The instructions in this post will show you how to set up the wireless network of your Linksys router manually.

Important: Only single-band routers are supported by the instructions in this article. There will be two (2) drop-down lists if you have a dual-band router: one for the 5 GHz frequency band and one for the 2.4 GHz frequency band.

To manually configure your Linksys router's wireless network, follow these steps:

  1. Getting to the router's web-based setup page
  2. Configuring the router's wifi settings

Getting to the Router's Web-Based Setup Page

Step 1: Go to the web-based setup page for the router. Click [Enter] after typing "192.168.1.1" into the address bar of any web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari).

Step 2: You will be prompted to enter your login credentials. After leaving the User name field blank, click OK and enter "admin" in the Password field.

Configuring the Router's WiFi Settings

The type of router you have will influence how you configure the wifi settings.

  • Wireless-N routers
  • Wireless-G, Wireless-B, Wireless-A routers

Wireless-N Routers

Step 1: Choose the Wireless tab on the web-based setup page.

Step 2: For the Configuration View, choose Manual.

Step 3: On the Network Mode drop-down list, choose Mixed. This is advised to allow devices with various wireless protocols to connect to the network.

Step 4: Type your chosen Network Name (SSID) in the field provided.

Step 5: Choose Auto from the Channel Width drop-down list (20MHz or 40MHz).

Step 6: From the drop-down menu, choose a Channel. Channels 1, 6, and 11 are recommended because they are non-overlapping.

Step 7: Choose your chosen SSID Broadcast configuration. Select Enabled if you want your wireless network name to be visible to the public. If you don't want to utilise it, choose Disabled.

Step 8: Save your settings by clicking the Save button.

Wireless-G, Wireless-B, Wireless-A Routers

Step 1: Choose the Wireless tab on the web-based setup page.

Step 2: Choose Mixed.

Step 3: In the field provided, provide your selected Wireless Network Name (SSID).

Step 4: Choose your preferred Wireless Channel from the drop-down menu. Channels 1, 6, and 11 are recommended because they are non-overlapping.
