How to Hard Reset Your Netgear WNR3500

Hello, Please let me know that how to hard reset your Netgear wnr3500. I am facing some issue in resetting Netgear router. Please help me.

Hard Reset Your Netgear wnr3500:

Netgear wnr3500 is a 802.11b/g/n wireless router which was officially launched in 2009. Netgear wnr3500 runs open source linux firmware and it supports third party installation package. Netgear wnr3500 comes with 8 MB flash memory with 64 MB primary memory.

Netgear wnr3500 comes with three internal antennas and four LAN port and one WAN port. It also comes with USB 2.0 EHCI host port. One of updated version of this Netgear wnr3500 comes with 128 MB flash memory and 128 MB primary memory with two internal antennas and four LAN Port and one WAN Port.

Some time new user might get difficulty to use Netgear wnr3500 by following reasons like you are not able to connect with its computer and for changing configuration in the web interface of Netgear wnr3500, password is required and you forgot his password. So to work in this situation, you have to do hard reset your netgear wnr3500.

Simple and Hard Reset Method:

The very first steps you have to try in failure condition is simple reset. Command nvram erase CFE command is used to clear out nvram of your router and get back firmware in original condition.

  • Firstly, you need to power off your router. It is advisable to attached it with power strip which enforce you to get power back quickly and easily.
  • The you need to press the reset button which is located at the back side of your Netgear wnr3500. You need to use sharp pin to press that reset button and hold it for some time.
  • Now you are required to give power back to router and continue to hold the reset button for atleast 30 seconds.

30-30-30 Reset Method to Hard Reset Your Netgear wnr3500:

This is very popular method to reset your Netgear wnr3500. This method is mainly used to reset commercial router in the market. This method is little bit different but you can try this method to hard reset your router.

  • You router should be powered with electrical power and you need to hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
  • You need to hold reset button in continue mode and unplug your Netgear wnr3500. You also hold this reset button for another 30 seconds.
  • Now you need to plug back your router with still holding reset button and continue to hold this reset button for another 30 seconds.

Manually Erase NVRAM: If above both methods becomes fail, you need to use this method. In this method you need to erase NVRAM manually using CFE prompt. This prompt required the use of USB-TTL cable which is bit more advance. So basically, you have to type command nvram erase command, once you reached at CFE prompt.

If All the Method Fails: If all the method fails in hard reset of your router, you need to do full de-bricking to bring back your netgear WNR3500 back in working manner.

For De-Bricking Your Router You Need to Follow Some Below Steps:

Crack and Open Router: Do not literally crack your router, you need to open it from the back side, use screw driver to remove two screws of the bottom of your router. You need to remove the top panel.

Download Putty and Install: Putty is a small program which is used to program your router . Download putty and install it using self-Installing executable.

Download Your Cable Driver and Install: You need to download driver for USB-TTL cable which is used to communicate with board directly.

Assign Static IP to Your PC: You need to assign a fixed or static IP for PC to communicate with 192.168.1.1 which is the default address of your bricked router. For setting IP, first you go to control panel->your internet connection->TCP/IP->property and change the IP address.

Plug in Ethernet Cable from Router with PC: Connect Ethernet cable with orange port of your router.

Modify USB-TTL Cable for Use: You have installed cable driver earlier if you do so, you need to head over on control panel->system->hardware->device manager and then click on port .

Connection of USB- Note: TTL cable to WNR3500: First you need to make sure that router should be power on and do not touch any metal to avoid electrical shock shorting. This part is important if you do not connect cables properly. On the board, you will have six pin which are black-> Pin 6, Yellow->Pin 5, Orange->Pin 2.

  • You need to configure putty and launch putty.
  • Connect your router with power.
  • You need to put firmware into your WNR3500 in the DOS.
