When you buy a new Netgear router, the router is set to the factory default settings. Most of the time, people do not notice that and use it as it is, but if you want to check the router settings, then you can simply go to the web browser and access the router interface. For security purposes, it is quite important to change the network name and password of your router from the factory default settings.

Once you have access to the router's interface, it becomes easy to change the settings, edit the username and password, and set a new username and password. Some of the things required to access the router's interface are a web browser, IP address, and default login credentials.

How to Change Netgear Router Username and Password?

Is your password compromised? Or do you want to update it? Whatever the case, let us consider that you want to change the password for your Netgear router.

To change the default password for the Netgear router, you quickly need to follow some simple steps discussed below.

Step 1: Launch any of the installed web browsers on your computer system or wireless device that is connected to your router's network.

Step 2: Type any of these listed URLs into the address bar of your internet browser:

If you have changed the URL address for your router, then you will be required to type in the URL you created.

The Netgear router login window opens and displays to the user.

Step 3: Enter the default router username and password in the provided fields of the login interface. As you already know the default username and password for your Netgear Router are “admin” and “password” respectively. After the successful Netgear login, the user interface for your Netgear Router will be displayed on the front end.

Step 4: Click on the option labelled as “Advanced” and then click on the Administration tab. Finally, select the “Set Password” option on the left. Here you can set the desired password for your Netgear router.

Now enter the old password, and type the new password twice in the provided fields. If you want to recover the router password ahead in future, then select the Enable Password Recovery check box.

Step 5: Click the Apply button to save the updated settings and close the browser window after applying the final changes. This way the password for your NETGEAR router has been changed.

Finally, you can exit out of the Netgear router interface. The next time you access the admin interface of your Router device, log in using the username and the new, updated password.

If in any situation, you are still facing difficulty in changing the Netgear router password or are unable to log into its admin panel, you can ask for troubleshooting help. The other best approach is to reset the Netgear Router to its default factory settings.

Note: As recommended by Netgear, you should enable the password reset option for your device so that you can later change the password for Netgear router admin.

This option eases you in resetting the password if it is forgotten. Remember that this process is only supported in Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome browsers. Safari browser doesn't support this reset process.

Hope the above post is helpful in changing your Netgear router username and password. Hence, by following the easy instructions, you can change the Netgear router password in an accurate way.
