It is common for routers to get dysfunctional after a specific time due to incorrect drivers and outdated firmware. In the same way, the Linksys Router may not work correctly with the new modem.

The problem may begin from the beginning or arise with time. So, to fix this problem, you need to follow particular instructions, such as first Rebooting your modem and the router and then deleting the Mac address on your computer.

Finally, you can power off the Spectrum modem, unplug the coax, wait a few minutes for the modem to lose the associated MAC address, plug it back, and check if the router connection works well.

What to do when Linksys router is not working with a new modem?

When your Linksys router is not working with a new modem, simply perform the given instructions:

1. Reboot your modem and the router

This is the initial step you need to perform when your router is unable to work with another modem. By rebooting your router, you mean cycling the power to it. For this, you must first unplug the power connector from the back of the router and plug it back again. So, reboot the modem, then the router, and finally the PC restores the connectivity most of the cases.

2. Clone the Mac address of your computer

Step 1: Firstly, launch any installed web browser on your system.

Step 2: Next, type and enter the default IP address of the router as 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.

Step 3: Now, type and enter the login details for your router. Usually, the default username is admin and the password is blank.

Step 4: Click on the OK button.

Step 5: Under the Setup tab, click on the sub-heading called MAC Address Clone.

Step 6: Here, click on the Enable option.

Step 7: Next, click on the Clone Your PC’s MAC option.

Step 8: Lastly, click on the Save Settings option.

Step 9: Now, clone the MAC address of your laptop to the route. This should probably work well, you must be all set and ready to surf the Internet.

Optionally, you can also power off the Spectrum modem, unplug the coax, and wait for the next few minutes so that the modem loses the associated MAC address. Thereafter, plug it back again and check if the router connection works well.

What if Your Linksys Router is not Working with the Arris Modem?

If Linksys router is giving incompatibility with Arris modem, then follow the given set of actions:

1. Power cycle the router and modem

Step 1: In the first step, unplug both the modem and the router.

Step 2: Wait for the next 30 seconds that allows the short-term memory of the devices to clear completely.

Step 3: Now, plug in the Arris modem back again.

Step 4: Again, wait for few more seconds and let modem connect before turning on the router.

Note: There is a fine difference between resetting a router and rebooting a router. The first fix suggests you reboot (power cycle) it. Since the process takes a few minutes of your time, so it is recommended to power cycle both your router and the modem.

2. Modify the default IP of the router

Step 1: Quickly access your Linksys cloud account.

Step 2: Under the Connectivity tab, click on the Local Network option.

Step 3: Click Edit button next to Router Details.

Step 4: Now, enter the IP address for your router.

Note: The IP address for your Linksys router can be:

  • 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255
  • 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255
  • 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255

Most of the Arris modems make use of the default setting for their IP but that conflicts with your router’s DHCP. So, try changing your router IP first and then reconnect.

3. Reset the router

The last option if your Linksys router is not working with a new modem is to simply reset the router. This means that you can return to the factory defaults. So, reset your Linksys router and then connect your modem to the router. Through the router, you can connect a cable to your computer.

If that doesn't work well then type cmd on your RUN menu (Windows). A black screen window is then displayed next. Then, type ipconfig/release followed with ipconfig/renew. There is a possibility that you are unable to access the Command Prompt as an admin.

Hope this article works when your Linksys router is not working with a new modem.
