How to Setup Linksys E1200 without CD or Cisco Connect Software

The process of setting up the Linksys E1200 router without CD or Cisco connect software is quite simple. Some of the important equipment required for the process are A Linksys E1200 wireless router, an ethernet cable, and a computer or any setup device. You need to access the router's interface with the help of an IP address and login credentials.

Go through the setup menu section and navigate the basic setup. Once you are done changing the settings, save the changes and reboot the router. Some of the benefits of setting up the router this way are flexibility, convenience, efficiency, quick network setup, and minimum cluttering.

Setup Linksys E1200 without CD or Cisco connect software

Like most of the wireless routers, you can install and setup Linksys E1200 with or without CD or Cisco connect software.

1: Do Connections for the Linksys Router

The first step is to make the connections to the router. For this, you have to attach the modem to the Internet port and computer to one of the 4 Ethernet ports on the Linksys router.

2: Visit Linksys E1200 Setup Page

Secondly, you need to launch any installed web browser on your system and visit the configuration setup page on the IP address 192.168.1.1. Remember, this is the default IP address of the E1200 router. So you need to open the Linksys E1200 setup page and manually modify the required settings.

For your information, the default password of Linksys E1200 is admin. But if you are unable to login Linksys Router to the admin page with this password, then hit and try some other passwords which you might have used while initial installation.

However, if you are working from the scratch and the default password is not working, then you have to reset the router. Note the fact that if you reset the router, then your router will come back to its factory default settings. To reset the router, you will find a small reset button at the rear side of your Linksys E1200 router machine. 

Continuously press and hold the button for at least 10 seconds. Thereafter, release the reset button and remove the power supply. Next, you have to wait for 10 seconds. Plugin the power cord back again and wait for the next 30 seconds. So, now you can try to open the Linksys E1200 setup page.

3: Modify Internet Connection Settings

Once you successfully launch the web interface of your router, you will be redirected on the main Admin page. On that page, you will find the Internet connection settings. So, change these internet connection settings as per your ISP.

If using Cable Internet, then you will have to clone the MAC address of the main computer.

While for the DSL Internet service, you will have to change the connection type to PPPoE. Also, enter the PPPoE settings and lastly save.

After you are done with changing the Internet connection settings, your main computer will be able to access the Internet through E1200 router.

4: Configure the Wireless Network Settings

In this step, you have to change the name of the wireless network or SSID. Additionally, you will be required to secure your wireless network by configuring its security settings. So make sure that you know the password of the WiFi, else  any third party can easily access your router network.

5: Link your Devices to the Network

Now one by one, you can start connecting and accessing router network for all your wireless computers and devices linked to that network. You simply have to search for the network using network name, enter the security password and get connected.

Setup Linksys E1200 using Cisco Connect Software

You can even setup Linksys E1200 using Cisco connect software for initial installation and management. But before running the Cisco connect software, you must connect your computer to the Internet modem and also ensure that you are using an active Internet connection through the modem.

Then you need to connect the modem to the Internet port on your Linksys E1200 and computer to port 1 on E1200. You may also run Cisco connect software on wireless computers. However, it's always recommended to connect the computer to the Ethernet port and avoid any such error messages.

Now, run the Cisco software and this will setup your wifi automatically. Also, it will setup a unique secured wi-fi network along with a Guest wireless network. And at the end of the program you can check or see the router settings, network name and password, guest access password.

Moreover, you can modify these router settings whenever required using the Cisco connect software. While the Guest network is an unsecured network so anyone can join the guest network. But no one can access the Internet without having a password. This straightway means there is a password for the Guest network as well.
