How to setup linksys router without cd?

I have recently bought a Linksys router from eBay. It is slightly old but better than my current router provided by the ISP. I do not know how this thing work, do I need to simply plug it in since I do not have a software CD to install any software which generally come along these. Can anyone here suggest me any methods to set it up on my own without the CD?

Got a router? You'll want to set it up then. You will have to unwrap the manual, pop in the disk and follow the instructions. You'll have it configured in no time!

But what if the router you've got is overhauled without a disk? What if you're configuring it up for a friend who has lost the disk? Or maybe you are just feeling nerdy and want to configure it on your own, without the CD?

We have got the solution for you. All you have to do is to follow the guide below and we are sure you will be appeased with what you've been looking for! Following are the steps for setting up linksys router without a CD;

setting up cables

Setting up cables

The basic and initial step, surely in this process is configuring and connecting the hardware. It's easy. Follow the steps for connecting the cables;
Set up your connection via a cable/DSL/ADSL modem

Connect the ethernet (network) cable from the modem into the Internet port of your router ( usually marked yellow on Linksys routers).There are four LAN ports for connecting computer and one Internet port for modem only.

Make sure to connect the modem and computer to the right port to get connected, so you can get access to the Linksys router setup page

When you get connected, You will perceive four lights, Power, WAN, wireless and Ethernet.

If you are done with properly connecting your hardware, we will move further to set up your network

Setting up the network

Review the DHCP IP address on your computer.

Open the command prompt. Type ipconfig and tap Enter. You will see different IP addresses. Watch for the Default gateway for Local Area connection or Local network Adapter. These are the numerals you will need to access the router web interface for setting up network.
192.168.1.1 is the default IP address of almost all the models of Linksys Wifi router.

Now , open your web browser and enter the default IP address in the address box ( 192.168.1.1).

IP  address

Turn off the firewall in case you are getting issues opening the Linksys router setup page{The IP login credentials can vary from region to region.In case of connecting issues, Contact your Internet Service Provider}.

You will now lead to the Username and password dialogue box.The default username is “admin” and the default password is also “admin”.In case the default password is not working, You can reset the device to the factory default.

You will now be directed to the router setup page .This is the Web interface of the router and it will succour you customize the router settings.

router settings

Customizing the network settings- Once you are done with your basic settings, You will have to customize or modify your network settings.
Proceed to the Wireless tab to change your network's name (SSID).

Revamp the Configuration View to Manual. Here, rename linksys to whatever name you like. You can adjust the network mode in these settings too. If your router aids it, and if you have devices that are capable of wireless-N, we would recommend you to go ahead and set the mode to that. It's the fastest. Otherwise wireless-G is fine.
wireless n/g
Reviewing security settings for the network-Proceeding to the next step, let's set up the security for the network. Those who want to join the network will need to enter a password. This is completely unlike your router's password which you enter to get to these settings. Once you have set the network's password, You don’t need to customize it. It will provide convenience to people in your house, who know your network's password and will now be able to access the network. For security purposes, It is recommended to change it.

Open the Wireless tab and go to Wireless Security. It is highly recommended to use the strong WPA2 Personal encryption, because it works with most devices, while giving you the ideal and flawless security.{ Do not choose WEP as it is very easily hackable}

WPA/2

Select only WPA2 Personal from the drop-down and assign your password.Save the settings.You now have a password shield network.

The last and final step is to secure your router’s settings. To configure the router password, Just go to the Administration main tab. Here you can edit the Router Password and retype it.

Save the settings, and you're ready to go!

You have now set up your linksys router. Also you have a functioning wireless Internet connection in your house, that is completely protected! It doesn't even require a CD to setup the router.

Step 1: Go to the Linksys Support Site and search for your Linksys Wi-Fi Router's model number.

Step 2: Click the Downloads tab and select the version number of your router.

NOTE: The hardware version of your device can be found underneath the product. If there is no version number beside the model number it means that it is version 1.

Step 3: Click the Linksys Connect Setup Software Download link then check the I accept the terms & conditions checkbox and click Accept.

Step 4: Click Save and select a location on your computer to save the file. It is recommended that you save the file to the computer Desktop.

Step 5: Double-click the Linksys Connect setup file that you have downloaded.

Step 6: Click the license terms link to read the license terms and information. Then check the box once done. Click Next.

Step 7: Follow instructions 1 and 2 in the setup screen. If your Internet connection is through satellite T1 or fiber optic that doesn't have a modem connect the existing Ethernet cable to the yellow Internet port of the router. Click Next.

NOTE: Linksys Connect will then start configuring your network. Do not close this window.

Step 8: The setup process will automatically generate a unique Router name (SSID) and Password for your network. You can change this information by editing the automatically generated SSID and password for your wireless network. Click Next when done.

Step 9: The setup will automatically identify your Internet connection type. If the software detects that you are using a DSL connection a screen will appear to let you enter your user account details on the required fields. After doing so click Next.

QUICK TIP: Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) provides both the Account name and Password. If you do not have these call your ISP.

NOTE: The setup will finalize your router's settings and attempt to establish the Internet connection. If the setup fails or the installation freezes in the middle of the process you may need to do more troubleshooting steps to resolve it.

Step 10: You will then see a confirmation window showing that you are now connected to the Internet. Click OK to continue.

You don't need any Installation CD.
To setup your router plugin it and connect the network cable.
Now access your router by using your router IP 192.168.1.1.
Router Id: admin
Password: blank
If you are unable to access it then you need to reset it.
To reset just find a small hole behind your router. Push the button inside the hole by the pin for 10-15 sec and follow the above steps.
