Fix Netgear Router Not Getting Full Speed-

Having more than one router at home is quite convenient, particularly if you live in a large house. The wi-fi won't drop and you will be able to control all the devices that are connected to every router in an easier way. If you wish to know how to fix the Netgear router not getting full speed problem, then you have come to the right place. Here, you will read different solutions to fix this problem.

One of the best ways to fix the Netgear router not getting full speed is to check the ethernet cables that your router uses. Optimize the settings of your router for connection and run a speed test to ensure that you are getting the required speed.

How to Fix the Netgear Router not Getting Full Speed?

Below, we have mentioned the different solutions that you can apply to fix Netgear router not getting full speed issue.

1) Restart Your Netgear Router

If you think that all the wires are properly connected, then you must power cycle your router. This also means restarting your router. For this, just turn off your router and then disconnect it from the electrical outlet.

Wait for a while and then reconnect your router to the power source. Power on your router and then wait for the lights to turn on. After that, perform a speed test to check whether the issue is resolved or not.

2) Check whether your Netgear router is optimized or not

One of the ways to fix the Netgear router not getting full speed problem is to optimize the settings of your router, which best suits your network connection. Log in to the admin page of your Netgear router and then sign in by entering your login credentials.

Step 1: Go to Advanced.

Step 2: After that, you need to go to the QoS setup.

Step 3: Uncheck the option of Turn internet access QoS On.

Step 4: Then, select Apply.

Please make sure that you are on WPA2 standard by checking the wireless section of Advanced Settings. Save the changes you made and then log out. Run the speed test one more time to confirm that the solution has worked.

3) Change the frequency band

Tr--band and dual-band routers allow you to use multiple frequency bands. Multiple frequency bands allow you to connect to more devices without any speed-dropping issue. If you have a tri-band and dual-band router, then you must change the band to 5 Ghz permanently.

The router will automatically assign the devices to the band that it thinks is the best. If you change the frequency band to 5 GHz, it will allocate your device to a higher frequency band. It is faster and more reliable. In order to change this setting, log into the router admin tool. Below are the steps that you need to follow for the same.

Step 1: Navigate to the Advanced tab.

Step 2: After that, go to Advanced setup and then select Wireless settings.

Step 3: Disable the Enable Wi-Fi router radio for all the bands other than 5 GHz.

Step 4: In the end, click on Apply.

Save the changes you just made and then log out of your admin tool. Disconnect the device one which you are experiencing speed issues and then connect to the network again. Perform a speed test and check if the issue is fixed or not.

4) Check your internet plan

Maybe the internet plan you have taken does not allow you to have the speed that you wish to get. Go to the website of your internet service provider and search for the plan that you are presently using.

Alternatively, log in to the account of your internet service provider and check the plan that you are presently using. Now, check whether the speed is matching with the speed that you want or not. If not, then upgrade the plan.

5) Update the drivers

Faulty network drivers in your PC can lead to problems with your internet speed, which will further give you the speed that you should get.

Below are the steps that you need to follow to update network drivers on Windows.

Step 1: Press the Windows key and R key simultaneously.

Step 2: Enter demgmt.msc in your Run box.

Step 3: Go to the Device Manager and then search for Network Adaptors.

Step 4: Expand that section and then right-click on every driver and then select the option of Update Driver.

Step 5: Update every driver and then restart your computer.

If you wish to check the network driver for Mac, then follow the steps mentioned below.

Step 1: Go to the Apple logo.

Step 2: Then, choose Software Update.

Step 3: Now, Apple will automatically start searching for driver updates and install it for you.
