As we all know, SSID is the name of the wireless network. It stands for Service Set Identifier. If you click on the wireless icon on your PC or tap on the wireless icon of your smartphone, then a list of available printers will open up before you. Every network name is a combination of letters and numbers.
Usually, the default network names are like Linksys_XXXX or Netgear_XXXX. In case you have a home wireless network, then you can either keep the default name or change it to something else. Below, we are going to explain how to change the network name of your router.
Below are the steps that you need to follow in order to change the network name of your router.
The first thing that you need to do is to search for the network name or SSID. This can easily be done by checking the bottom of your router where the password and network name are printed. After that, search for the local IP address of your router.
Then, launch your internet browser and log into your router. Now, open the administrative console of your router. There, you will be required to enter the present username and password of your router and then open the control panel.
The IP address may differ from one person to another. If you are a user of Netgear router, then you need to enter routerlogin.com in the address bar to open the login page. If you are a Linksys router user, then you need to enter 192.168.1.1 in the location bar of the browser to open the login page.
In case you are not sure what is the IP address of your router, then go to the website of the router manufacturer or read out the documentation that came with the router to find the login address.
Launch the internet browser on your PC and then enter the IP address to open the admin console. Some router companies allow you to alter the settings using smartphone apps. For this, you need to enter your router's IP address in the URL section of the browser and then press Enter.
After that, you need to enter the username and password of your router. In case you haven't changed the login information before, then enter the default credentials of your router. You can easily find the default username and password in the user manual of your router.
