Question

How to Resolve Connection Issue in NETGEAR Router?

I have the problem of no connection when my new Netgear WNR834B router is connected to my new Dell laptop. I can connect directly to my insight cable broadband connection via ethernet from the laptop to the Motorola cable modem, but when I go through the steps to install the router, it continues to say, "no connection," and then instructs me to check the physical connections, which I've tried at multiple times.

Reset Netgear Router:

To troubleshoot Netgear connection problems, please have a look at these steps -

Step1.First of all, you need to check the connection of devices. Make sure ethernet/USB cable is properly connected to Netgear router, modem, and your computer. If the ethernet cable is not in working condition or it is torn/frayed then immediately replace it with the new one.

Step2.Also, refresh your cable connection by power cycling your network.

See how to power cycle your network-

  • Shut down all networking devices i.e., Netgear router, modem, computer/wireless laptop.
  • Turn on the modem and let it finish the booting. Wait for some time. When all LED lights of modem become stable, proceed to next step.
  • Turn on Netgear router and establish a fresh connection with your modem. This process will also take some time. When the Netgear router ‘s internet LED light turns into green, you must understand that connection has been established between your router and modem.

  • At last, turn on other wireless devices.

Step3.After power cycling your network, you need to download the latest firmware for Netgear router.

See how to download Netgear router’s latest firmware -

  • Navigate to “downloadcenter.netgear.com” and download the firmware according to your Netgear router’s model number.

  • Save the file on your desktop.
  • If you have connected your router to PC via the ethernet cable then open the web browser and type “routerlogin.net” in the address bar. After this, press Enter key.
  • Login into Netgear wizard by entering username and password.
  • After logging, tap on Advanced > Administration.
  • Next, click on Firmware update button and then click on Browse.
  • Locate the firmware file and then click on Open> Upload.

Step4.If still, you are experiencing connection issues then perform a factory reset on your Netgear router.

  • Search-out the Reset button.

  • Take a paperclip or sharp object and press the Reset button using that one for 10 seconds.
  • After 10 seconds, release the Reset button and wait until your Netgear router reboots.
  • When Netgear router’s power light turns into solid green then you must understand default settings are restored on the router.

Try all measures and if any error persists then contact Netgear Router TEAM.
